It is very advantageous to identify one via biometrical traits as all consists of characteristics that are unique, stable, and non-intrusive. Biometrics is a competent personal identification system based on physiological and behavioural characteristics such as face, fingerprint, iris, vein, voice, etc. Whenever someone wants to access into restricted premises or to devices, then that person needs to prove his/her own identity and mostly conventional methods like passcodes that can be forgotten or identity proofs that can be stolen are used. Iris recognition can be applicable in many areas like medical institutions, industrial areas, banking system, border areas and in various fields of access control. Among all biometric features, iris is considered as the most powerful identification feature due to its static behaviour, level of accuracy and high computational speed over large population throughout the life. This project presents about reviewing Iris recognition system and algorithms which consists of iris pre-processing (location, feature extraction and identification) and mostly comparing the evolution from previous years.

Iris biometry has been widely used to recognize an individual and approached as a significant research area due to its reliability and high recognition rates.
